Prepare three shallow bowls. In the first, place the flour. In the second, whisk together the egg and milk. In the third, combine the panko bread crumbs, sea salt, and black pepper. (5 minutes)

Dredge each calamari ring in the flour, shaking off any excess. Next, dip it into the egg mixture, ensuring it's fully coated. Finally, press the ring into the panko mixture, making sure it's evenly coated on all sides. (10 minutes)

Arrange the breaded calamari rings in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they don't overlap. You may need to work in batches. Lightly spray the tops of the calamari with nonstick cooking spray. (5 minutes)

Cook in the preheated air fryer for 4 minutes. Flip the rings, spray again with nonstick cooking spray, and continue cooking until golden brown and crispy, about 3 minutes more. (7 minutes)

For extra crispy calamari, consider double-dredging the rings: flour, egg, panko, then egg and panko again.
Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket! Cooking in batches ensures even cooking and maximum crispiness.
Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce. Cocktail sauce, marinara, or a spicy aioli all work wonderfully.
