For a deeper flavor, try substituting 1/4 cup of the water with apple cider vinegar or red wine vinegar. A sprig of fresh rosemary or thyme added during the simmering process will impart an herbaceous note to the sauce. To thicken the sauce at the end, remove the pork chops and simmer the sauce uncovered for a few minutes, allowing it to reduce to your desired consistency.
