Follow The Directions

01

Step
5 mins

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). (5 minutes)

02

Step
20 mins

Place potatoes into a large saucepan. Add water to cover and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until tender, about 20 minutes.

03

Step
5 mins

Once tender, drain potatoes, and mash with 2 tablespoons butter, cream, nutmeg, salt, and pepper.

04

Step
2 mins

Place the drained sauerkraut into a casserole dish and top with sliced kielbasa. Spread with mashed potatoes and dot with remaining 2 tablespoons of butter.

05

Step
25 mins

Bake in preheated oven until heated through, 20 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.

For a richer flavor, use sour cream instead of heavy cream in the mashed potatoes.
Feel free to experiment with different types of kielbasa, such as smoked or garlic varieties.
A sprinkle of caraway seeds over the sauerkraut before baking adds an authentic touch.
This bake is also delicious with a dollop of sour cream or a sprinkle of fresh dill after baking.

This was so easy to make, and my family loved it! I added a little bit of caraway seed to the sauerkraut for extra flavor.

I'm not usually a fan of sauerkraut, but this dish changed my mind! The potatoes and kielbasa complement it perfectly.

A great way to use up leftover kielbasa! I'll definitely be making this again.

I sprinkled some breadcrumbs on top before baking for extra crunch.

Very filling and flavorful. I'm adding this to my regular rotation.

  • Kiel Rippin

I used regular kielbasa instead of turkey, and it was delicious! Next time I might add some diced onions for more depth.

  • Jarrod Huel

My sauerkraut was extra sour, so I added a teaspoon of sugar to balance it out. Worked like a charm!

This recipe is very forgiving. I didn't have heavy cream, so I used milk and it still turned out great.
