Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a small bowl, stir together 1/4 teaspoon of cocoa and 1/4 cup of sugar. Grease 10 cups of a muffin tin, and sprinkle each cup with some of the sugar mixture to coat the bottom and sides. (5 minutes)

03

Step

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, 1/2 cup of sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, salt, baking soda, and baking powder. (3 minutes)

04

Step

Pour in the friendship starter, egg, oil, and vanilla; mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. (2 minutes)

05

Step

Spoon the batter into the prepared muffin cups, filling each one about 1/2 full. (5 minutes)

06

Step

Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean. (20 minutes)

07

Step

Cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. (10 minutes)

For a richer chocolate flavor, add 1/4 cup of chocolate chips to the batter.
The Amish Friendship Bread Starter should be active and bubbly for best results. If it's been refrigerated, bring it to room temperature before using.
Store muffins in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
