Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a large bowl, whisk together the sourdough starter, flour, baking soda, salt, and baking powder. Add the beaten eggs and mix until a shaggy dough forms. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. (7 minutes)

03

Step

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size. (60-90 minutes)

04

Step

Punch down the risen dough to release the air. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a 10x20 inch rectangle.

05

Step

In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, and cinnamon. Spread this mixture evenly over the dough rectangle. Sprinkle with raisins and walnuts, if desired.

06

Step

Starting from a long edge, tightly roll up the dough into a log, jelly-roll style. Pinch the seam to seal.

07

Step

Cut the log into 1-inch thick slices. Arrange the slices in an ungreased 11x14 inch baking pan, leaving a little space between each roll.

08

Step

Cover the pan and let the rolls rise again until nearly doubled in size. (30-45 minutes)

09

Step

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. (25 minutes)

10

Step

Let the cinnamon rolls cool slightly in the pan before glazing (optional) and serving.

For an extra rich flavor, use browned butter instead of melted butter in the filling.
If you don't have raisins or walnuts, try other dried fruits or nuts like cranberries, pecans, or chopped almonds.
A cream cheese glaze is a classic pairing for cinnamon rolls. Simply whisk together cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to your desired consistency.
Adjust baking time depending on your oven. Start checking the rolls around 20 minutes.
