In a medium bowl, whisk together the tequila, lime juice, honey, minced garlic, and ground cumin. (2 minutes)

Alternatively, combine all ingredients in a resealable bag. Seal the bag tightly and shake vigorously until well blended. (2 minutes)

Pour the marinade over your choice of protein (flank steak, chicken, or firm-fleshed fish) in a shallow dish or resealable bag, ensuring it's fully coated.

Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight, for maximum flavor penetration. (1-12 hours)

Remove the marinated protein from the refrigerator 30 minutes before grilling to allow it to come to room temperature for even cooking. (30 minutes)

For a spicier kick, add a pinch of chili flakes or a finely minced jalapeño to the marinade.
If using honey, warm it slightly before adding to the marinade to ensure it mixes evenly.
Do not reuse the marinade after it has come into contact with raw meat or fish. Always discard used marinade to avoid foodborne illness.
This marinade is best suited for grilling, but can also be used for pan-searing or baking.
