Add the rolled oats, beaten egg, evaporated milk, water, applesauce, and softened butter to the bowl. Stir until just combined; be careful not to overmix. (3 minutes)
Heat a lightly oiled griddle or large frying pan over medium heat. (5 minutes)
Pour or scoop approximately 1/4 cup of batter onto the hot griddle for each cake. (1 minute)
Cook until bubbles begin to form on the surface and the bottoms are golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. (8 minutes)
