For a smoother sauce, use an immersion blender to blend the sauce before serving. If you don't have fresh sage, you can use 1/2 teaspoon of dried sage. Add it along with the nutmeg and cinnamon. A pinch of red pepper flakes can add a nice touch of heat to balance the sweetness of the pumpkin.
