For a richer flavor, sear the beef stew meat in a skillet before adding it to the slow cooker.
Consider adding other vegetables, such as celery, parsnips, or turnips, for a more complex flavor profile.
If you don't have steak sauce, Worcestershire sauce can be used as a substitute.
To thicken the stew at the end of cooking, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water, then stir into the stew and cook for 15 minutes, or until thickened.
