For even more depth of flavor, add a bay leaf to the slow cooker during cooking and remove it before serving. If you prefer a sweeter sauce, increase the amount of brown sugar to 1/3 cup. Leftovers are fantastic! The sauce makes a delicious au jus for sandwiches or can be served alongside mashed potatoes.
