Follow The Directions

01

Step
5 mins

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with foil. (5 minutes)

02

Step
10 mins

Using a serrated knife, cut a checkerboard pattern into the top of the sourdough bread, spacing the cuts approximately 1 inch apart. Be careful not to cut all the way through the loaf; the slices should remain connected at the bottom. (10 minutes)

03

Step
5 mins

In a saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Stir in the Dijon mustard, poppy seeds, seasoned salt, minced onion, and lemon juice until well combined. (5 minutes)

04

Step
5 mins

Place the bread onto the prepared baking sheet. Gradually pour the butter mixture evenly over the bread squares and between the cuts, allowing the butter mixture to soak into the bread. Gently stuff slices of Swiss cheese between the bread squares. (10 minutes)

05

Step
10 mins

Bake in the preheated oven until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and beginning to brown, approximately 30 minutes. (30 minutes)

06

Step
30 mins

Allow the bread to cool slightly before serving. To serve, let guests pull apart the bread into individual squares. (5 minutes)

For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a sprinkle of garlic powder to the butter mixture.
Experiment with different types of cheese, such as Gruyere, Fontina, or a blend of cheeses, to customize the flavor profile.
If the bread begins to brown too quickly, tent it with foil during the last 10-15 minutes of baking.
