For a richer flavor, use homemade beef broth instead of canned gravy. If you don't have fresh mushrooms, dried mushrooms reconstituted in warm water work well. Be sure to strain the mushroom water and add it to the gravy for extra depth of flavor. To thicken the gravy further, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water and stir into the gravy during the last 10 minutes of simmering.
