Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a large bowl, cream together the granulated sugar and softened butter using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined. (7 minutes)

03

Step

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. (3 minutes)

04

Step

Divide the dough in half. Place each half between two sheets of parchment paper and roll out to about 1/4-inch thickness. Place the rolled-out dough, still between the parchment paper, on a baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 10 minutes to firm up. This prevents the cookies from spreading too much during baking. (15 minutes)

05

Step

Remove the dough from the refrigerator. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out an even number of cookies. For half of the cookies, use a smaller heart-shaped cutter to cut out a center, creating a window. (10 minutes)

06

Step

Carefully transfer the cut-out cookies to ungreased baking sheets, leaving about 1 inch of space between each cookie. (5 minutes)

07

Step

Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown. (10 minutes)

08

Step

Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. (30 minutes)

09

Step

Once the cookies are completely cool, spread about 1/2 teaspoon of strawberry jam evenly over the solid heart-shaped cookies. Dust the heart-shaped cookies with the cut-out centers generously with powdered sugar. Carefully place the powdered sugar-dusted cookies on top of the jam-covered cookies to create a sandwich. (15 minutes)

For best results, use high-quality strawberry jam with a vibrant flavor and color.
Chilling the dough is crucial for preventing the cookies from spreading and losing their shape during baking.
Don't overbake the cookies! They should be lightly golden around the edges.
Feel free to experiment with different extracts, such as almond or lemon, for a unique flavor twist.
These cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
