Follow The Directions

01

Step

Divide the ground beef into 4 equal patties, gently pressing to form. Season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Set aside. (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the bacon until crisp and golden brown, turning occasionally. (8-10 minutes) Transfer the bacon to paper towels to drain, reserving the rendered bacon fat in the skillet. Keep warm.

03

Step

Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the bacon fat and cook over medium heat until softened and lightly caramelized, stirring frequently. (8-10 minutes) Sprinkle with sugar during the last few minutes of cooking to enhance the caramelization. Set aside.

04

Step

Position an oven rack about 6 inches from the broiler and preheat the broiler.

05

Step

Open the hamburger buns and place them on a baking sheet with the cut sides facing up. Toast under the broiler until lightly golden brown. (1-2 minutes) Watch carefully to prevent burning. Set aside.

06

Step

In the same skillet used for the bacon and onions, pan-fry the ground beef patties over medium-high heat until browned and cooked through to your desired doneness, about 5-7 minutes per side for medium. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Cheddar cheese on each patty and allow it to melt.

07

Step

To assemble the burgers, spread peanut butter evenly onto the bottom halves of the toasted buns. Spread ketchup onto the top halves.

08

Step

Layer the bottom buns with dill pickle slices, caramelized onions, the cheeseburgers, a slice of crispy bacon, several tomato slices, and a generous amount of shredded lettuce. Top with the ketchup-smeared bun tops and serve immediately.

For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a drizzle of honey or a dash of hot sauce to the peanut butter.
If you prefer a different type of cheese, feel free to substitute it for the Cheddar. Gruyere or pepper jack would be excellent choices.
For best results, use high-quality ground beef with a good fat content (around 80/20) to ensure juicy and flavorful burgers.
Crispy bacon is key to achieving that perfect texture. It is recommended to use thick cut bacon.
The caramelized onions really enhance the sweet-savory flavor profile of this recipe.
