Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a small saucepan, combine the water, sugar, and basil leaves. (2 minutes)

02

Step

Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 1 minute, allowing the basil to fully infuse the syrup. (1 minute)

04

Step

Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the syrup steep for 30 minutes to extract maximum flavor from the basil. (30 minutes)

05

Step

Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh strainer into a sterilized glass jar or bottle, discarding the spent basil leaves. (5 minutes)

06

Step

Allow the syrup to cool completely before sealing the jar. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.

For a more intense basil flavor, gently bruise the basil leaves before adding them to the saucepan.
Experiment with different varieties of basil, such as Thai basil or lemon basil, to create unique flavor profiles.
This syrup can also be used to sweeten iced tea, drizzle over fruit salad, or brush onto cakes for added moisture and flavor.
To sterilize a glass jar, boil it in water for 10 minutes.
