Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a large bowl, gently toss the drained yams and fresh cranberries together until evenly distributed. (2 minutes)

03

Step

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, rolled oats, softened margarine, and ground cinnamon. Use your fingertips or a pastry blender to work the margarine into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. (5 minutes)

04

Step

Add about half of the oat crumble mixture to the yam and cranberry mixture. Toss gently to combine, ensuring the yams and cranberries are lightly coated. (3 minutes)

05

Step

Transfer the yam mixture to a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish, spreading it evenly. (1 minute)

06

Step

Sprinkle the remaining oat crumble mixture evenly over the top of the casserole. (1 minute)

07

Step

Bake in the preheated oven until the topping is lightly browned and the cranberries have softened, about 35 minutes. (35 minutes)

08

Step

Optional: For a marshmallow topping, sprinkle 1 1/2 cups of miniature marshmallows over the casserole during the last 5-10 minutes of baking, or until the marshmallows are lightly browned and puffed.

For a richer flavor, use melted butter instead of margarine.
To prevent the oat topping from burning, cover the casserole dish with foil during the first 20 minutes of baking, then remove the foil for the remaining time.
Add chopped pecans or walnuts to the oat mixture for extra crunch and flavor.
Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
