Follow The Directions

01

Step

Prepare the Slaw: In a large bowl, combine the shredded red cabbage, grated red onion, and chopped cilantro. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Make the Slaw Dressing: In a separate bowl, whisk together the sour cream, half of the lime juice, honey, minced chipotle pepper, cayenne pepper, kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper. (3 minutes)

03

Step

Marinate the Slaw: Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss to coat. Let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight, to allow the flavors to meld. (30+ minutes)

04

Step

Prepare the Guacamole: In a bowl, combine the avocados, minced jalapeno pepper, minced onion, and sriracha sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Mash with a fork until you reach your desired consistency. (7 minutes)

05

Step

Make the Blackening Spice: In a small bowl, combine the remaining lime juice, brown sugar, paprika, oregano, garlic powder, salt, cumin, and ground red chile pepper. (2 minutes)

06

Step

Season the Tilapia: Sprinkle the spice mixture evenly over both sides of the tilapia fillets, pressing gently to adhere. (2 minutes)

07

Step

Cook the Tilapia: Heat canola oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Carefully place the seasoned tilapia fillets in the hot skillet. Cook for about 3 minutes per side, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. (6 minutes)

08

Step

Assemble the Tacos: Warm the tortillas according to package directions. Flake the cooked tilapia into bite-sized pieces. Fill each tortilla with flaked tilapia, a generous amount of slaw, and a dollop of guacamole. Serve immediately and enjoy!

For a spicier slaw, add a pinch more cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce to the dressing.
If you don't have chipotle peppers on hand, you can substitute a pinch of chipotle powder.
Feel free to add other toppings to your tacos, such as shredded cheese, pico de gallo, or a drizzle of your favorite hot sauce.
