Follow The Directions

01

Step

Heat vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and fragrant (about 2 minutes).

02

Step

Add the ground pork and ground sirloin to the pot. Break up the meat with a spoon and cook, stirring frequently, until browned (8-10 minutes). Drain any excess grease from the pot.

03

Step

Crush the whole peeled tomatoes by hand and add them to the pot along with their juices. Pour in the low-sodium beef broth. Stir in the black beans, golden raisins, chili powder, ground cumin, ground cinnamon, salt, ground allspice, and ground cloves. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the raisins are plump and softened.

04

Step

Stir in the halved green olives and slivered almonds. Continue to simmer, uncovered, for another 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and deepen.

For a spicier chili, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a diced jalapeño pepper along with the other spices.
If you don't have beef broth, chicken broth or vegetable broth can be substituted.
This chili is even better the next day, as the flavors have more time to develop. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Serve with tortilla chips, a dollop of sour cream or Greek yogurt, shredded cheese, or a sprinkle of fresh cilantro.
