For a richer flavor, consider browning the ground beef with a touch of olive oil and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Feel free to adjust the amount of vegetables to your preference. Carrots, zucchini, or green beans would also be delicious additions. If you don't have bacon grease on hand, butter or olive oil can be used as a substitute. The bacon grease does add a unique smoky flavor, though. For a vegetarian version, omit the ground beef and use vegetable bouillon cubes.

May 1, 2025The simmering time really makes a difference. The flavors are so much richer after simmering for a few hours.
