Follow The Directions

01

Step

In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine 2 cups of flour and the yeast. (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a saucepan, combine milk, butter, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring until smooth and the temperature reaches 90-100°F (32-37°C). (5-7 minutes)

03

Step

Pour the warm milk mixture into the flour mixture. Add eggs and beat on low speed for 30 seconds. Increase the speed to high and beat for 3 minutes. Add 1 cup of flour and 3 tablespoons of orange juice; mix on high for 3 minutes more. (10 minutes)

04

Step

Fit the mixer with a dough hook. Add the remaining flour gradually, beating until fully incorporated and the dough is smooth and elastic. (5-8 minutes)

05

Step

Grease a large glass bowl. Place the dough in the bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume. (1-2 hours)

06

Step

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). (15 minutes)

07

Step

Punch down the risen dough. Divide the dough into two equal portions. Split each portion into three even pieces. Roll each piece into a long cylinder and braid the three pieces together to form a loaf. Place the loaves on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise again for about 1 hour. (1 hour 20 minutes)

08

Step

Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown and the center is baked through. (25-30 minutes)

09

Step

While the bread is baking, prepare the glaze by stirring together confectioners' sugar and 1 tablespoon of orange juice in a bowl until smooth. Once the loaves are out of the oven and slightly cooled, brush the glaze over the tops. (5 minutes)

For a richer flavor, use whole milk instead of low-fat.
Ensure your yeast is fresh for the best rise.
If the dough is too sticky, add flour 1 tablespoon at a time until it forms a smooth ball.
The internal temperature of the bread should reach 200°F (93°C) when fully baked.
Add a sprinkle of sesame seeds before baking.

I added a handful of raisins to the dough for extra sweetness and texture. Delicious!
