Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a large saucepan, combine the chopped green tomatoes, apples, brown sugar, raisins, cider vinegar, butter, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and cloves. Place the saucepan over medium-low heat.

02

Step

Cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture comes to a gentle bubble and slightly reduces in volume. This process should take approximately 25 minutes. Allow the filling to cool slightly for about 15 minutes before assembling the pie.

03

Step

Preheat your oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). Gently press one pie crust into a 9-inch pie plate.

04

Step

Pour the cooled filling into the prepared pie crust. Top with the remaining pie crust. Crimp the edges of the crust together to seal the pie.

05

Step

Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes to set the crust. Then, reduce the oven temperature to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and continue baking until the crust is golden brown, approximately 20 to 25 minutes more. Let the pie cool completely before serving.

For a less soggy bottom crust, sprinkle a heaping teaspoon of tapioca starch onto the bottom crust before adding the filling. This will help absorb excess moisture during baking.
Feel free to adjust the spices to your personal preference. A pinch of allspice or ginger can add an extra layer of warmth.
If you don't have homemade pie crust, store-bought works perfectly well. Just make sure it's a good quality brand.
This pie is delicious served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
