Step

Season chicken wings generously with salt and pepper. (Prep time: 2 minutes)

Step

Heat sesame oil in your Instant Pot® set to the Sauté function. Add chicken wings and minced garlic; sauté until the wings are nicely browned on all sides. (Cook time: about 4 minutes, 2 minutes per side). Hit Cancel and use tongs to transfer the wings to a plate.

In a small bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup water, soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, and ground ginger until smooth. Pour the sauce into the Instant Pot® and use a wooden spoon to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot. Return the wings to the pot, stirring to ensure they are well coated in the luscious sauce. (Prep time: 3 minutes)

Close and lock the lid of the Instant Pot®. Select high pressure according to the manufacturer's instructions and set the timer for 5 minutes. Allow 6 to 10 minutes for the pressure to build inside the pot. (Pressure build time: 6-10 minutes)

Release the pressure using the natural-release method according to the manufacturer’s instructions (about 10 minutes), then quick-release any remaining pressure. Carefully unlock and remove the lid. (Release time: 10 minutes)

Use tongs to carefully transfer the wings from the Instant Pot® to a clean plate.

In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of water to create a smooth slurry. Turn on the Sauté function and whisk in the cornstarch slurry into the sauce in the Instant Pot®. Simmer until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency (about 2 minutes). Hit Cancel. Return the wings to the pot and toss to coat them evenly in the thickened teriyaki glaze. (Cook time: 5 minutes)

For extra crispy wings, after coating them in the thickened sauce, you can broil them in the oven for a few minutes per side.
Adjust the amount of brown sugar and honey to suit your desired level of sweetness.
Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions for an elegant presentation.
