For a richer flavor, add a tablespoon of capers or chopped black olives to the sauce. If you prefer a smoother sauce, gently mash the sardines with a fork before adding them to the skillet. Fresh parsley or basil make a lovely garnish in addition to the Parmesan and red pepper flakes.
