Follow The Directions

01

Step

Lightly dust a flat work surface with flour. Unroll puff pastry sheets; roll each out into a 10x15-inch rectangle. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard over each puff pastry sheet, leaving a small border at the edge. (3 minutes)

03

Step

Cover the mustard with a generous layer of pastrami slices, followed by a layer of Swiss cheese slices, ensuring even coverage. (7 minutes)

04

Step

Roll each puff pastry sheet up tightly like a jelly roll, starting from one of the long edges. (5 minutes)

05

Step

Wrap each roll tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to 24 hours, to allow the pastry to firm up. (1 hour)

06

Step

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. (10 minutes)

07

Step

Remove the puff pastry rolls from the refrigerator and slice them into 1/4-inch-thick pinwheels. Lay the pinwheels on the prepared baking sheets, leaving some space between each one. (10 minutes)

08

Step

Brush the tops of the pinwheels with beaten egg and sprinkle with caraway seeds. (5 minutes)

09

Step

Bake in the preheated oven until the pastry is lightly browned and the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 12 minutes. (12 minutes)

10

Step

Let the pinwheels sit for 1 minute on the baking sheet before removing them to a serving platter. Serve warm with Thousand Island dressing or a mustard dip. (1 minute)

For a richer flavor, use a high-quality Dijon mustard.
Don't overfill the pinwheels, or they will be difficult to roll and slice.
If the puff pastry becomes too soft while you're working with it, return it to the refrigerator for a few minutes to firm up.
For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the filling.
These pinwheels can be made ahead of time and baked just before serving.
If you don't have caraway seeds, poppy seeds or everything bagel seasoning can be used as a substitute.
