Follow The Directions

01

Step
5 mins

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a rolling boil. Add the egg noodles and cook until al dente, about 5 minutes. Drain well.

02

Step
10 mins

While the noodles are cooking, melt the butter in a large skillet over low heat. Add the chopped onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and golden brown, approximately 8 minutes.

03

Step
30 mins

Add the shredded cabbage to the skillet and toss to coat with the butter and onions. Cover the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender, about 30 minutes. Season generously with salt and pepper.

04

Step
10 mins

Remove the lid from the skillet and continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the cabbage begins to caramelize and brown, an additional 7 minutes.

05

Step
5 mins

In a large serving bowl, combine the cooked egg noodles and the caramelized cabbage. Toss gently to combine, and season with additional salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately and enjoy!

For a richer flavor, consider using browned butter instead of regular salted butter.
A splash of apple cider vinegar added during the last few minutes of cooking brightens the cabbage's sweetness.
This dish pairs perfectly with a dollop of sour cream or a sprinkle of fresh parsley.
Haluski is excellent served alongside grilled fish or as a comforting side dish.
