Follow The Directions

01

Step
2 mins

Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. (2 minutes)

02

Step
5 mins

Add the onion and bell pepper and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and fragrant. (3-5 minutes)

03

Step
2 mins

Add the chopped cabbage, water, crushed garlic, and thyme sprigs to the skillet. Bring the mixture to a boil.

04

Step
10 mins

Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the skillet, and let the cabbage steam until tender. (8-10 minutes)

05

Step
1 mins

If using, stir in the Scotch bonnet chile during the last minute of cooking. Season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Serve immediately, discarding the thyme sprigs.

For a richer flavor, use browned butter instead of regular butter.
Adjust the amount of Scotch bonnet chile to your spice preference, or omit it altogether for a milder dish.
A splash of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar at the end can add brightness.
This dish pairs perfectly with roasted meats, poultry, or fish.
