Follow The Directions

01

Step
5 mins

In a bowl, whisk together the sugar, black bean sauce, parsley, green onions, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sherry, sesame oil, vegetable oil, ginger, garlic, and five-spice powder. (5 minutes)

02

Step
2 mins

Pour the marinade into a resealable plastic bag. Add the chicken, ensuring it's fully coated. Squeeze out excess air and seal the bag. (2 minutes)

03

Step
8 hrs

Marinate in the refrigerator for at least overnight, or up to 2 days, turning occasionally to ensure even flavor infusion. (minimum 8 hours)

04

Step
5 mins

Preheat an outdoor grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate to prevent sticking. (5 minutes)

05

Step
2 mins

Remove the chicken from the marinade, shaking off any excess. Discard the remaining marinade. (2 minutes)

06

Step
10 mins

Carefully weave the chicken tenders onto the soaked wooden skewers. (10 minutes)

07

Step
10 mins

Place the skewered chicken on the preheated grill. Cook, turning occasionally, until the chicken is no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear. This should take about 10 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165°F (74°C).

For optimal flavor, marinate the chicken for at least 24 hours.
Soaking the wooden skewers prevents them from burning on the grill.
Serve with steamed rice and a side of your favorite Asian-inspired vegetables for a complete meal.
If you don't have a grill, you can bake the skewers in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 20 minutes, or until cooked through.
Adjust the amount of sugar to your liking for a sweeter or less sweet marinade.

The marinade is a little too sweet for my taste, but it's easily adjustable. Overall, a great recipe!
