Follow The Directions

01

Step
15 mins

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Arrange bacon strips in a single layer and bake until crisp, about 15 minutes. Transfer bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.

02

Step
5 mins

Reduce oven temperature to 325°F (160°C). Slice Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally. Spread 2 tablespoons of the softened butter evenly over the cut side of the bottom half of the rolls. Sprinkle evenly with brown sugar and cayenne pepper. Arrange crispy bacon slices over the brown sugar mixture.

03

Step
2 mins

Spread the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter evenly into the bottom of a 9x13-inch casserole dish. Place the prepared bottom halves of the sliders into the buttered dish.

04

Step
3 mins

In a separate 9x13-inch baking dish, whisk together the eggs, half-and-half, vanilla extract, salt, and maple syrup until well combined.

05

Step
5 mins

Place the top halves of the rolls into the egg mixture, turning gently to coat and lightly soak the bread. Allow any excess egg mixture to drip off before placing the top halves over the bacon layer in the casserole dish. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil.

06

Step
10 mins

Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking until the tops are golden brown and lightly toasted, about 5 to 10 minutes more.

07

Step
2 mins

Spread the remaining butter over the tops of the sliders. Cut into 12 individual servings. Dust generously with powdered sugar. Serve immediately with additional maple syrup for dipping.

For a spicier kick, increase the amount of cayenne pepper.
If you don't have Hawaiian rolls, brioche rolls also work well.
Feel free to add a layer of cheese (like Gruyere or cheddar) for an even more decadent experience.
For a vegetarian option, replace the bacon with sautéed mushrooms or roasted vegetables.

Next time, I might try using a different type of cheese, like a sharp cheddar, to balance the sweetness even more.
