For a richer flavor, use browned butter instead of softened butter. If you don't have Tennessee whiskey, bourbon or another type of whiskey works well. You can also omit the alcohol completely for a non-alcoholic version. For chewier cookies, slightly underbake them. For crispier cookies, bake them a bit longer. Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
