Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a large pot, combine the water, reserved onion skins, and white vinegar. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer gently, stirring occasionally to ensure the onion skins remain submerged. Continue simmering for 30 minutes to extract the rich color from the skins. Remove from heat and allow the dye to cool to room temperature, approximately 30 minutes.

03

Step

Carefully remove the onion skins from the dye and discard. Gently place the eggs into the cooled dye, ensuring they are fully submerged. Bring the dye back to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes.

04

Step

Remove the pot from the heat and allow the eggs to remain in the dye for another 30 minutes, or until they achieve a deep, vibrant red hue.

05

Step

Using a slotted spoon, carefully transfer the dyed eggs to a wire rack to dry completely. (15 minutes)

06

Step

Once the eggs are dry, lightly rub each egg with a small amount of olive oil to give them a beautiful, glossy sheen. Store the eggs in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

For a deeper, more intense red color, you can experiment with adding more onion skins or letting the eggs sit in the dye for a longer period.
Ensure the eggs are completely dry before polishing with olive oil for the best shine.
The dyed eggs can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Be careful not to overcrowd the pot when boiling the eggs to prevent cracking.
