Follow The Directions

01

Step

Prepare the grill: Preheat your grill to medium heat (approximately 350°F or 175°C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

Prepare the bread: Using a serrated knife, slice the loaf of French bread lengthwise, being careful not to cut all the way through, leaving the bottom crust intact. (2 minutes)

03

Step

Butter and season: Generously spread half of the softened butter evenly over the cut surfaces of the bread. Season liberally with coarse sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper. Spread the remaining butter over the outside of the loaf, and again, season generously with salt and pepper. (5 minutes)

04

Step

Grill the bread: Carefully place the loaf, cut-side down, onto the preheated grill. Toast until golden brown and slightly charred, checking frequently to prevent burning. (3-5 minutes).

05

Step

Flip and finish: Using tongs, carefully close the loaf and grill on both outer surfaces until crispy and golden brown, checking frequently. (3-5 minutes per side)

06

Step

Slice and serve: Transfer the grilled loaf to a cutting board using tongs. Slice diagonally into approximately 10 slices and serve immediately. (2 minutes)

For enhanced flavor, consider using a high-quality European-style butter.
Day-old bread works best for grilling as it holds its shape better and absorbs the butter without becoming soggy.
Feel free to experiment with other seasonings, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or dried herbs.
Watch the bread carefully while grilling, as grill temperatures can vary, and the bread can burn quickly.
Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
