Follow The Directions

01

Step
5 mins

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). (5 minutes)

02

Step
15 mins

Spread hazelnuts on a baking sheet and bake until lightly toasted, about 5-7 minutes. Transfer to a bowl to cool. (15 minutes)

03

Step
5 mins

Combine 1 cup eggnog, sugar, salt, butter, egg, egg yolk, bread flour, yeast, anise seed, and cinnamon in your bread machine. Program for a basic cycle with a medium crust. Start the machine, without using the delay timer. (5 minutes)

04

Step
1 mins

Add the cooled, toasted hazelnuts to the bread machine between the first and second kneading cycles. (1 minute)

05

Step
10 mins

Once the baking cycle is complete, remove the bread immediately and let it cool on a wire rack. (10 minutes)

06

Step
5 mins

Prepare the glaze: Mix confectioners' sugar and 1 tablespoon eggnog until smooth and drizzling consistency. Drizzle over the cooled bread before serving. (5 minutes)

For a deeper flavor, toast the anise seeds lightly in a dry pan before adding them to the bread machine.
If you don't have a bread machine, you can knead the dough by hand or with a stand mixer until it's smooth and elastic. Let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size before baking.
Feel free to experiment with other nuts like almonds or walnuts.
The glaze can be customized with a touch of rum or vanilla extract.

I didn't have anise seed, so I used fennel seed instead. It was still delicious!

The bread was a little dry. Next time, I'll add a tablespoon of oil to the dough.
