Follow The Directions

01

Step

Evenly distribute butter cubes into the bottom of a 10x14-inch baking dish. Sprinkle brown sugar over butter. Arrange pear slices into the bottom of the dish. Arrange bread cubes into a single layer over pears.

02

Step

Mix together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, and almond extract in a large bowl until fully blended; pour evenly over bread cubes, assuring all pieces are evenly covered. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and chill overnight in the refrigerator, 8 hours to overnight.

03

Step

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Remove casserole from the refrigerator and allow to warm while the oven preheats.

04

Step

Bake in the preheated oven until the top of bread is golden brown and eggs have solidified, 45 to 60 minutes. Top with sliced almonds to serve.

For an extra touch of elegance, dust the baked casserole with powdered sugar before serving.
Feel free to substitute the canned pears with fresh pears for a seasonal twist.
If you don't have sourdough bread, challah or brioche bread will work well too.
