Follow The Directions

01

Step

Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1/3 of the beef, 1/2 cup onion, and 1 clove garlic. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. Transfer to a slow cooker.

02

Step

Repeat twice more with remaining oil, beef, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. (5-7 minutes per batch)

03

Step

Add Sloppy Joe sauce, celery, green pepper, brown sugar, cider vinegar, and cloves to the slow cooker.

04

Step

Cook on Low for at least 4 hours, adjusting seasoning to taste.

For a richer flavor, try using a combination of ground beef and ground pork.
Feel free to adjust the amount of brown sugar to your liking. Some people prefer a sweeter Sloppy Joe.
Serve on toasted buns with your favorite toppings, such as shredded cheese, coleslaw, or pickles.
Add a touch of heat with a pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce.
Consider using a leaner ground beef to reduce the amount of grease. Drain off any excess fat after browning.

I was skeptical about using Manwich, but it actually worked really well as a base. I added some Worcestershire sauce and it was amazing!
