Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a medium bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, ancho chile powder, chipotle chile powder, and salt-free seasoning blend. Season generously with salt and pepper. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Generously sprinkle the spice mixture over both sides of the flat iron steak, pressing it firmly into the meat to create an even coating. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Place the seasoned steak in a resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish, cover, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 days for maximum flavor penetration. (30 minutes - 2 days)

04

Step

Remove the steak from the refrigerator 30 minutes before cooking to allow it to come to room temperature. (30 minutes)

05

Step

Drizzle the steak with vegetable oil and rub it evenly over the surface. (2 minutes)

06

Step

Cook as desired: Grill over medium-high heat for 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or pan-sear in a hot skillet for the same amount of time. For broiling, place the steak on a baking sheet and broil for 4-5 minutes per side. (8-10 minutes)

For a deeper smoky flavor, use smoked paprika in place of some of the chili powder.
Adjust the amount of chipotle chile powder to control the level of spiciness.
Rest the cooked steak for 5-10 minutes before slicing against the grain. This allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a more tender and flavorful steak.
Serve with avocado slices, a squeeze of lime juice, and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro for a complete and delicious meal.
