Follow The Directions

01

Step

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add mushrooms, bell pepper, and onion. Cook and stir until vegetables are tender. (5-7 minutes)

02

Step

Remove from skillet and set aside.

03

Step

Mix ground beef, ground pork, bread crumbs, egg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Divide meat mixture into four equal portions and form into burgers.

04

Step

Heat skillet over medium-high heat and brown burgers for about 4 minutes on each side.

05

Step

Remove burgers to a plate and set aside.

06

Step

Reduce heat to low and add garlic to the skillet. Stir until fragrant. (30 seconds)

07

Step

Add marinara sauce, red wine, sugar, basil, and crushed red pepper flakes; mix to combine.

08

Step

Add burgers back to the skillet, spoon sauce over them, cover, and simmer. (15 minutes)

09

Step

Check occasionally and stir in a little water if the sauce becomes too dry. Remove cover and add mushrooms, bell peppers, and onions back to the skillet. Cook until heated through. (3-4 minutes)

For a richer flavor, use a full-bodied red wine like Chianti or Cabernet Sauvignon.
Feel free to add other vegetables to the stew, such as zucchini, carrots, or spinach.
If you don't have panko bread crumbs, regular bread crumbs can be used.
Serve with a sprinkle of fresh parsley or grated Parmesan cheese for an extra touch.

I added a splash of balsamic vinegar to the sauce for a little extra tang. Delicious!

This was a fun twist on burgers! My family loved it, especially served over egg noodles.
