Follow The Directions

01

Step
1 mins

Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat. (2 minutes)

02

Step
1 mins

Add the sliced onion, diced habanero, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine. (1 minute)

03

Step
6 mins

Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions become translucent and softened. (5-8 minutes)

04

Step
8 mins

Stir in 1 tablespoon of butter, and continue cooking until the onions are beautifully caramelized, deepening in color and flavor. (5-10 minutes)

05

Step
1 mins

Remove from heat and top with the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter, allowing it to melt over the warm onions. (1 minute)

Use gloves when handling habanero peppers to avoid skin irritation.
For a milder flavor, remove more of the habanero seeds and membranes.
Adjust the cooking time depending on your desired level of caramelization. The longer they cook, the sweeter and richer they become.
These onions are best served warm, but can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently before serving.

Be careful with the habanero, it's definitely got a punch! I used half and it was still plenty spicy.
