Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease baking sheets. (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. (5 minutes). Beat in the egg and egg yolk one at a time, then stir in the vanilla and almond extracts until well combined. (3 minutes)

03

Step

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. (2 minutes). Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. (5 minutes)

04

Step

Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a 3/4-inch round tip. Alternatively, use a large freezer bag with a corner snipped off. (2 minutes)

05

Step

Pipe the dough into 2-inch long logs onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving at least 2 inches between each cookie. (10 minutes). For best results, chill the cookie sheets in the freezer for 5-10 minutes to help the cookies maintain their shape during baking. (5 minutes)

06

Step

Bake for 12-15 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the edges are lightly golden brown. (15 minutes)

07

Step

Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. (15 minutes)

08

Step

While the cookies are cooling, melt the chopped chocolate and 2 tablespoons of butter in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth. (5 minutes). Stir in the milk until the chocolate is glossy and fluid. (1 minute)

09

Step

Dip both ends of each cooled cookie into the melted chocolate and place them on waxed paper to set. (10 minutes). For a decorative touch, sprinkle with chopped nuts or sprinkles before the chocolate sets.

For a richer flavor, use brown butter. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat, cooking until it turns a nutty brown color. Let it cool slightly before using in the recipe.
Experiment with different extracts, such as lemon, orange, or peppermint, to create your own unique flavor combinations.
Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
For a gluten-free version, substitute the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend.

The chilling step is key! It really helps the cookies keep their shape. I skipped it the first time, and they spread out too much.

Easy to follow recipe and the cookies are so good! I added a pinch of sea salt to the chocolate for extra flavor.

I made these with lemon extract instead of almond, and they were absolutely delicious! Thanks for the inspiration!
