Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a mixing bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let stand until foamy, about 5 minutes.

02

Step

Add olive oil, salt, and half of the flour to the yeast mixture. Stir until just combined. Gradually add the remaining flour, mixing well after each addition, until a soft dough forms. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes.

04

Step

Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1.5-2 hours.

05

Step

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

06

Step

Gently deflate the risen dough and press it into an 8x8-inch square baking pan.

07

Step

Evenly sprinkle the Italian salad dressing mix over the top of the dough, followed by the oregano, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. (2 minutes)

08

Step

Bake in the preheated oven until the top is golden brown and the bottom sounds hollow when tapped, about 25 minutes. (25 minutes)

09

Step

Remove from the oven and sprinkle evenly with the Colby-Monterey Jack cheese. Return to the oven and bake until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 5 more minutes. (5 minutes)

10

Step

Let cool slightly before cutting into wedges and serving warm.

For a richer flavor, try using a high-quality olive oil.
Feel free to experiment with different cheeses, such as mozzarella or provolone.
If you don't have an 8x8-inch pan, a similar-sized round pan will also work.
For a crispier crust, bake the bread directly on a baking stone or pizza stone.
