Follow The Directions

01

Step

Chill Cupcakes: Spoon 1/2 cup of vanilla frosting into a bowl. Spread a thin, even layer over the top of each cupcake using a knife or offset spatula. Place the frosted cupcakes in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. (Time: 30 minutes)

02

Step

Prepare Green Frosting: In a separate bowl, combine the remaining 2 cups of vanilla frosting with 2 drops of green food coloring. Stir well until the color is uniformly distributed. Adjust the color by adding more green food coloring, one drop at a time, until you achieve your desired shade of Christmas green. (Time: 5 minutes)

03

Step

Pipe Tree Shapes: Transfer the green frosting into a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Hold the piping bag perpendicular to the top of each cupcake. Start piping around the outer edge of the cupcake, working inwards in a circular motion to create a conical tree shape. Continue layering the frosting upwards to form a pointed tree. Repeat this process with the remaining cupcakes. (Time: 20 minutes)

04

Step

Decorate the Trees: While the frosting is still soft, decorate your Christmas tree cupcakes with sprinkles, colored sugar, small candies, or edible glitter. Get creative and make each tree unique with your choice of 'ornaments'. (Time: 15 minutes)

For a more stable base, consider using a denser cupcake recipe like a pound cake or a sturdy vanilla cupcake.
If you don't have a piping bag, a zip-top bag with a corner snipped off can work in a pinch. Or, use a butter knife or spoon to apply the frosting.
To prevent the green frosting from melting, store decorated cupcakes in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

The green frosting was a little too sweet for my taste, I added a pinch of salt to balance it out and it was perfect!
