For an even richer flavor, sear the beef chuck roast in a hot skillet before placing it in the slow cooker. If you prefer a thicker gravy, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water to create a slurry. Stir the slurry into the slow cooker during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
