Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a bowl, gently toss the crawfish tails with the Creole seasoning, ensuring they are evenly coated. (2 minutes)

03

Step

In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and green bell pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant. Gradually thin the mixture with 1 cup of water. (10 minutes)

04

Step

Add the seasoned crawfish tails to the saucepan. Season with ground black pepper. Bring to a simmer. (5 minutes)

05

Step

In a separate small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of water until smooth, creating a slurry. Gradually pour the cornstarch slurry into the simmering crawfish mixture, stirring constantly. Continue to stir until the etouffee thickens to your desired consistency, about 5 minutes. (8 minutes)

06

Step

While the etouffee simmers, prepare the bread boats. Cut the tops off each of the small bread loaves. Carefully hollow out the center of each loaf, creating a well or boat. Reserve the bread removed from the center for breadcrumbs or another use. Place the hollowed bread loaves on a baking sheet. (7 minutes)

07

Step

Spoon the crawfish etouffee generously into the center of each bread boat, filling them to the brim. (3 minutes)

08

Step

Place the baking sheet with the filled bread boats in the preheated oven and bake until the bread is warm and lightly toasted, about 10 minutes. (10 minutes)

For a richer flavor, consider using seafood stock instead of water.
Add a splash of hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper for an extra kick.
Garnish with fresh parsley or green onions before serving.
Serve with a crisp green salad for a complete meal.
