Follow The Directions

01

Step
8 mins

Bring a large pot of generously salted water to a rolling boil. Add spaghetti and cook according to package directions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes.

02

Step
1 mins

While the pasta cooks, melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook, stirring frequently, until fragrant and softened, about 1 minute. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

03

Step
0 mins

Reserve 1/2 cup of the pasta water before draining the spaghetti. Drain the spaghetti and immediately add it to the skillet with the garlic butter.

04

Step
1 mins

Pour the reserved pasta water into the skillet. Add Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes (if using). Toss quickly and vigorously until the cheese is melted and a creamy sauce coats the pasta, about 1-2 minutes. Add more pasta water, a tablespoon at a time, if needed to reach desired consistency.

05

Step

Stir in fresh parsley. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Serve immediately, garnished with additional Parmesan cheese and parsley.

For a richer flavor, use brown butter instead of regular butter. Cook the butter over medium heat until it turns a nutty brown color before adding the garlic.
Freshly grated Parmesan is key! Pre-shredded cheese doesn't melt as smoothly and can result in a grainy sauce.
Don't overcook the pasta! Al dente pasta will hold its shape better and provide a more pleasant texture.
If the sauce becomes too thick, add a little more pasta water to thin it out. If it's too thin, simmer for a minute or two, stirring constantly, until it thickens.
Feel free to customize this dish with your favorite additions. Grilled chicken, shrimp, or vegetables would all be delicious.
