Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes.

02

Step

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, Italian seasoning, sugar, garlic powder, and garlic salt. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and continue simmering while you prepare the meatballs (about 15 minutes).

03

Step

In a large bowl, gently combine the ground beef, beaten egg, bread crumbs, mozzarella cheese, and parsley. Be careful not to overmix. Roll the mixture into walnut-sized meatballs. (about 10 minutes)

04

Step

Carefully place the meatballs into the simmering tomato sauce, ensuring they are mostly submerged. Increase the heat to medium and continue simmering until the meatballs are cooked through and no longer pink in the center, about 40 minutes, gently turning the meatballs halfway through.

05

Step

While the meatballs simmer, bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package directions, until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain the spaghetti well.

06

Step

Serve the spaghetti immediately, topped with the meatballs and generous spoonfuls of the tomato sauce. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and a sprinkle of fresh parsley, if desired.

For a richer sauce, add a tablespoon of butter along with the crushed tomatoes.
To prevent meatballs from sticking, lightly grease your hands with olive oil before rolling.
Don't overcrowd the skillet when browning the meatballs; work in batches if necessary.
Feel free to add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce for a touch of heat.
